Where the data comes from and how often it is updated
All datool.ru numbers come from open MAX channels: we regularly read all public channels and store their cards, posts, views and reactions. This page explains what exactly we collect, how often each metric is updated, why a big channel's numbers are fresher than a small one's, and what we never collect.
What we collect
- The channel card — name, description, avatar, link, number of subscribers, marks (for example, the A+ mark from MAX).
- The full post history of every public channel — from the very first post. A new channel arrives with its whole history, not just from the day we found it.
- Views and reactions of every post.
- Links and reposts between channels — they power mentions, the citation index and similar channels.
- Images — reduced copies (previews) for display on the site.
We find new channels all the time, including through links and reposts in posts. The channel you need is missing — add it yourself: Add a channel.
How often we check a channel
We check every channel regularly: has the number of subscribers changed, has anything new been published. The bigger the channel, the more often:
| Channel subscribers | Checked roughly every |
|---|---|
| 500K and more | 2 minutes |
| 100–500K | 5 minutes |
| 20–100K | 15 minutes |
| 5–20K | 1 hour |
| 1–5K | 3 hours |
| under 1K | 12 hours |
| 0 subscribers | day |
Adjustments to the schedule:
- the channel is verified by its owner — checked every 2 minutes regardless of size;
- the channel has just published a post — for the next hour it is checked one step more often: posts usually come in series;
- the channel has been silent for more than 30 days — checked one step less often;
- the channel has been silent for more than 90 days — checked once a week.
New posts
There is no separate schedule for reading posts: as soon as a check shows something new in the channel, we read the new posts right away. So a post appears on the site after roughly the interval from the table above: within minutes for a big channel, within a few hours for a small one.
Views and reactions
- Views are updated while a post is no older than 7 days — that is when views grow. For older posts the view count barely changes.
- Reactions are re-read twice: about 3 hours after publication (reactions do not come in at once) and once more a day later.
Subscribers and daily statistics
- Subscribers are updated on every check of the channel, and recorded in the history no more than once an hour per channel. Daily charts show the number at the end of the day, Moscow time.
- Daily statistics (posts, views, reactions, ads by day) for today are recalculated every 3 hours, and finalised for the last few days overnight.
Indexes and the showcase
| What | When it is updated (Moscow time) |
|---|---|
| Citation index | every night at 04:30 |
| Quality index | every night at 05:00 |
| Channel card numbers on a post page | every morning at 07:00 |
| Ratings, collections, “Today in MAX” | hourly |
| “MAX statistics” | hourly |
| Ranks in “Neighbours in the ranking” on the “Similar channels” tab | every 6 hours |
Images, video and files
- Image previews of posts younger than 7 days are copied to our storage right away.
- Images of older posts are copied on first display: the first time the image opens via the MAX link, and from then on it is our copy. If the MAX link has expired, “Loading image…” briefly appears in place of the image.
- Video, audio and files are not stored — the site shows a link that opens them in MAX. Only the video cover frame is saved.
Closed channels
We do not read closed channels. The exception: the owner has connected the datool.ru bot to their closed channel and verified it. Then the channel's statistics are visible only to the owner's organization, and we do not copy its images — we show them via the MAX link. Details — Owner verification.
Deleted posts
If the author deletes a post in MAX, we erase it from our database together with its images, copies and mentions, and recalculate the channel's statistics. A deletion usually reaches us within a day or two. A post deleted long after publication may disappear from our site later. We keep no archive of deleted posts and no “deleted” label.
What we never collect
- Private conversations — in no network.
- Group chat messages — a chat has only its card and counters: members, number of messages, time of the last event.
- Comments on posts — neither the texts, nor the authors, nor their number.
- Who voted in polls — only the question, the options and the total number of votes.
